Mr. Prem Sagar Subedi has over 20 years of experience in renewable energy project design, innovative financing for RE projects, productive use of energy services, and private sector development. His expertise spans various countries, including Nepal, Pakistan, Ethiopia, and Uganda, with additional contributions to projects in the Philippines, Rwanda, and Tanzania. Throughout his career, he has worked with esteemed organizations such as UNCDF, UNDP, UK Aid funded projects, Winrock International, and the Government of Nepal. He has also served as a Board of Director for a leading Microfinance Bank in Nepal.

 

In his role as Deputy Team Leader of the UK Aid funded Nepal Renewable Energy Programme, Mr. Subedi made significant contributions to the design of the Sustainable Energy Challenge Fund (SECF). This fund aims to provide viability gap funding to energy projects. The SECF garnered impressive market response, receiving over 250 applications. As of June 2023, it has approved twenty-three renewable energy projects, leveraging private financing by 6.5 times.

 

During his tenure at UNCDF, Mr. Subedi actively collaborated with financial institutions and energy companies in Nepal, Ethiopia, and Uganda to facilitate financing for RE products and their productive applications. Additionally, he led a study exploring opportunities to integrate energy and technology solutions into agriculture value chains.

 

In Pakistan, Mr. Subedi provided crucial technical advisory support for various projects, including establishing an RE company in partnership with Tameer Microfinance Bank and promoting biogas plants at dairy farms. Furthermore, Mr. Subedi played a pivotal role in the feasibility study of the National Biogas Program in Uganda and Tanzania, conducted a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis of the biogas program in Sub-Saharan Africa, and explored opportunities to promote the market-led biogas sector in Nigeria and Ghana. He was a team member for a study titled “Consumer Lending and Microfinance Research to Expand Access to Energy Services in Asia” (Consultant for SEEP Network, USA).

 

Moreover, he served as the National Advisor for the Productive Use of Energy Component at the Nepal Government’s Alternative Energy Promotion Centre. He also served as a National Technical Expert as Consultant for ADB.
